Columbia Records e Legacy Recordings, la divisione di Sony Music Entertainment dedicata al catalogo, pubblicheranno venerdì 6 novembre “The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1976 Live Recordings” di Bob Dylan. Il box set da 39 CD documenta integralmente il tour del 1976 di Bob Dylan, insieme a uno straordinario gruppo di musicisti e artisti ospiti, che ha segnato un’ulteriore svolta nella carriera live del cantautore.
Sempre il 6 novembre uscirà anche un set da 3 LP contenente il concerto completo del 16 maggio 1976 a Fort Worth, remixato a partire dai nastri multitraccia originali.

Partito il 18 aprile 1976 da Lakeland, in Florida, e conclusosi a Salt Lake City il 25 maggio 1976, il tour si articolò in ventisette date, quasi tutte rappresentate nelle 371 tracce mai pubblicate prima. Un’epoca leggendaria e brillante della carriera di Dylan: le registrazioni del tour rivelano come le sue esibizioni, progressivamente sempre più furiose, siano culminate nel concerto completo di Fort Collins del 23 maggio 1976, remixato a partire dai nastri multitraccia originali, dal quale nacque lo speciale Hard Rain, trasmesso in diretta una sola volta.
«“Idiot Wind” nell’Hard Rain della NBC è una delle esecuzioni più furiose e brillanti che Dylan abbia mai realizzato davanti a una telecamera», scrive lo scrittore e giornalista musicale Mikal Gilmore nel suo saggio esclusivo incluso nelle note di copertina. «Ancora una volta, fu tutto estemporaneo. […] Una sola sera, una sola ora. Non fu mai proiettato in un cinema. Non fu mai ritrasmesso, né pubblicato in videocassetta o DVD. È scomparso. Tutto ciò che resta del film The Rolling Thunder che non fu mai realizzato, ma che invece si svolse sui palchi per quattro settimane e mezzo nella primavera del 1976, è ciò che ora tenete tra le mani. Fate partire la musica, chiudete gli occhi e assaporate la storia».
La seconda parte del leggendario tour di The Rolling Thunder Revue vide Dylan accogliere nella sua compagnia vecchi amici e collaboratori. Dylan si riunì a Joan Baez per proporre una serie di emozionanti duetti in numerose date, tra cui le esecuzioni di “Blowin’ in the Wind” e “Railroad Boy”.
La band di Dylan comprendeva il bassista Rob Stoner, la violinista Scarlet Rivera e il batterista Howie Wyeth — tutti musicisti che avevano partecipato all’album di grande successo “Desire” — oltre ai chitarristi Mick Ronson (degli Spiders from Mars di David Bowie), Steven Soles, David Mansfield e T Bone Burnett.
Burnett ricorda: «The Rolling Thunder Revue fu il primo tour nazionale di punk rock. Aprì una porta che portò a un’esplosione furiosa di nuova musica — The Clash, Elvis Costello, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols e tanti altri. Dylan l’aveva fatto di nuovo. È bravo ad attraversare porte che nessun altro riesce nemmeno a vedere, porte che gli altri credono siano muri.»
Il Deluxe set da 39 CD contiene 381 tracce, 371 delle quali mai pubblicate prima, oltre a un booklet con le note di copertina di Mikal Gilmore e fotografie rare.
Il set da 3 LP con il concerto completo di Fort Worth comprende 22 tracce.
Sony Music si prepara a far felici tutti i fan anche con una nuova serie di ristampe dedicate al catalogo di Bob Dylan. Tra le uscite “Self Portrait” (1970), “Empire Burlesque” (1985) e “Knocked Out Loaded” (1986). Per chi ama l’energia dal vivo, torna in formato LP “Bob Dylan At Budokan”, lo storico live registrato a Tokyo nel 1978. La selezione include anche “Dylan” (1973), la raccolta di cover e outtake, e “Greatest Hits Vol. 3”.
